This past weekend was my Annual Desktop Clearance, and what do you think I found buried deep amid the soggy beer coasters, coffee-stained music store receipts, and fuzzy spiders? The three-track demo CD from the Boston-based neo-trad fiddle outfit that calls itself Blue Moose and the Unbuttoned Zippers, which I had picked up almost a year ago at Folk Alliance in Memphis. I ran into them again at NERFA (New York) in November, where we all had some righteous tune jammage in the hotel lobby.

Blue Moose and the Unbuttoned Zippers
If you’re into American-Scandinavian-Celtic fiddle music played with exuberance and skill (and who isn’t?) then BMUZ is the band for you. Watch out for these guys in the future: Andy Reiner and Mariel Vandersteel on fiddles, Bronwyn Bird on nyckelharpa, and Stash Wyslouch on guitar.
They say a tune is worth a thousand words. That’s what I say anyway. Listen up y’all, then fall on your knees, and pray. Pray that they will shorten the name of this killer band!
