Stuart Mason
Please allow me to introduce myself. I am Stuart Mason. I play and sing traditional and original songs and tunes on guitar, banjo, and mandola. I design and build web sites, and go fishing whenever I can. My wife and myself live in Los Osos, a small unincorporated beach town in California, about halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. I’ve lived in West Virginia, Ohio, Maui, and California.
I define folk music as the music of the people, from Bill Monroe to Gillian Welch, Django Reinhardt to Devil Makes Three, and The Carter Family to Crooked Still. If it’s got deep roots, it’s good. If it’s got some twang or fiddle, even better. I steer away from loud electrified bands most of the time. Good stuff, been there done that, but usually not my cup of tea.
I’m a working musician, I’m a member of Celtic-folk group Molly’s Revenge and Little Black Train, a bluegrass-roots trio. I have released a solo record called Appalachian Bride. I perform a weekly residency with the Old-Time Fiddle and Banjo Show at Pappy MacGregor’s in San Luis Obispo, CA.
