Today is the release date for “Don’t Turn Your Back” (Compass Records) from 2007 & 2008 IBMA Female Vocalist of the Year award-winner Dale Ann Bradley. This collection of modern mainstream bluegrass is a smooth, lovely listen from start to finish. How can it not be, with an all-star band of Stuart Duncan (fiddle/banjo), Deanie Richardson (fiddle), Alison Brown (banjo), Gena Britt (banjo), Steve Gulley (vocals), and Mike Bub (bass)? Ranging from new material to gospel favorites, pop-rock covers to pure mountain trad, there’s lots here to like for fans of Alison Krauss and Ricky Skaggs. Of course, Fiddlefreak likes the old stuff!

Compass has posted an Up Close interview with Dale Ann Bradley. Here’s an excerpt:
“I would like to have dinner with Abraham Lincoln and Janis Joplin. Lincoln’s life has always intrigued me. He had major losses, saw the absolute worst of humanity and had to find a way to keep some kind of order… Janis was one of the most ‘broken hearted’ people I have ever read about. I don’t think it was all of her doing. I think I would just like to tell her that people throughout the generations “got” her music and understood her emotion.”
