Austin native Sarah Jarosz (pronounced juh-ROSE) released her debut album “Song Up in Her Head” on Sugar Hill Records in June. This singer-songerwriter of only 18 years is making quite a splash whever she appears, and it’s no wonder. She has surrounded herself with the elite of the newgrass crowd, including luminaries Jerry Douglas, Stuart Duncan, Mike Marshall, Tim O’Brien, Aoife O’Donovan (Crooked Still), Mark Schatz, Darrell Scott, Chris Thile (Nickel Creek), Abigail Washburn (Uncle Earl), and producer Gary Paczosa (John Prine, the Duhks, Chris Thile).

Her material ranges from introspective modern folk to oldtime banjo to virtuosic mandolin. Here is a video clip of the title track, from Austin TV, and an MP3 from the new record. The unusual instrument in the video is an archtop octave mandolin (or bouzouki) like the one often used by Tim O’Brien. Enjoy!
Just downloaded her MP3 from Amazon, and maddeningly (and as usual) the personnel who played on the album aren’t listed. Anyone know who was involved on which tracks?

Ah, thank you so much for the details! Anyone know what banjo tuning she uses for Tell Me True? Sounds a little like Mountain Tuning but I’m a beginner, so I ain’t sure!
